AYRI — Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute

When Sri K. Pattabhi Jois died in 2009, Lino Miele decided to give the school in Rome the name Guruji had chosen for his own school in Mysore: Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. The institute was founded the following year, in 2010, and Lino directs it.

The word that matters in that name is research. Guruji did not call his school a studio or an academy. The method is not a fixed inheritance to be repeated: it is something to be examined, counted, questioned and understood — which is exactly what the study of the vinyasa count has always been.

What happens here

Daily classes, all year: Mysore style for those with a practice, guided classes for those learning it. Alongside them, workshops and seminars for students who want to go deeper — into the count, into pranayama, into the texts.
