Lino Miele — Ashtanga Yoga

Biography

Lino Miele

A student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois since 1989, and a teacher for more than thirty years.

Lino Miele began practising Ashtanga Yoga in 1989. In 1993 he left his profession — technical director in the theatre — to give the practice the place it had already taken in his life.

He studied for many years in Mysore with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. What began as practice became research: ten years of work on the inner meanings and the practical application of the vinyasa system, carried out under Guruji’s direct guidance. That research became his book, Astanga Yoga, still one of the reference texts on the count and the structure of the method.

He teaches in Rome with his partner Tina Pizzimenti, at the school the two of them opened in 2000 on Via Annia. In 2010 he founded AYRI — the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute, named after the institute Guruji established in Mysore, and he directs it there.

Through the year he teaches workshops across Europe and beyond, and leads retreats in South India and in the Italian countryside. Teachers who have studied with him over the years now run their own schools in the same lineage.
